Proposed construction of the Dasboschfontein off-channel Dam on Farm 16/ 2, Moorreesburg
The Dasbosch Familie Trust is proposing to construct a new off-channel storage dam on the farm Dasboschfontein 16, portion 2. The farm is located approximately 13km south of the town of Porterville, and is located within the Berg River Local Municipality. The Dasbosch Familie Trust is a producer and exporter of fresh fruit and vegetables for both domestic and international markets. The farm currently consists of 9 hectares of table grapes, 70 hectares of vegetables and 82 hectares of citrus orchards.
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, 2006, promulgated in terms of Section 24(5) of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) (No 107 of 1998) as published in Government Notice No R385 of 2006, identifies a list of activities in terms of Sections 24(2) (a) and (d) of the Act, which may not commence without environmental authorisation from the competent environmental authority
Current Project Phase
The Final Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report was submitted to the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEA&DP) on 8 June 2009 for their consideration. DEA&DP responded to the submission by requesting greater clarity and further information on certain issues on 21 October 2009 (Refer to Annexure A of the Addendum to the Final EIA Report). Based on their request, an Addendum the Final EIA Report was drafted and is available for download below."
