Proposed Construction Of The Tienrivieren Dam, Citrusdal
Mouton Citrus (Pty) Ltd is proposing the construction of the Tienrivieren Dam on the remainder of a portion of Farm Thee River No 505, some 28 km south of Citrusdal. The proposed dam is an off-channel structure that has no natural catchment area and will thus be gravity-fed by abstraction of water from three potential sources, namely:
- Direct abstraction from the Olifants River;
- Abstraction from the existing Thee River diversion channel; and
- Existing drainage channels in the vicinity of the Thee River.
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, 2006, promulgated in terms of Section 24(5) of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) (No 107 of 1998) as published in Government Notice No R385 of 2006, identifies a list of activities in terms of Sections 24(2) (a) and (d) of the Act, which may not commence without environmental authorisation from the competent environmental authority
