Proposed Extension And Upgrading Of Wastewater Treatment And Associated Infrastructure In The Blaauwberg Area
An Environmental Impact Assessment ("EIA") process is currently being undertaken for the proposed extension and upgrading of wastewater treatment and associated infrastructure in the Blaauwberg Area.
The proposed project is a scheduled activity in terms of the Environment Conservation Act (ECA) (Act 73 of 1989), requiring authorisation from the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning. CCA Environmental (CCA) and Ninham Shand Consulting Services (Ninham Shand) have been appointed by the City of Cape Town (CCT) to undertake the requisite environmental process for the proposed project. As legally required, a Draft Environmental Impact Report(EIR) has been compiled which describes the proposed project and, based on the specialist studies, presents a comparative assessment of the potential environmental (social and biophysical) impacts of the composite alternatives brought forward for further investigation and assessment in this phase of the EIA process.
Current Project Phase
Copies of the Draft EIR can be reviewed at the Koeberg and Table View public libraries. The Report is also available for download from the CCA Environmental website (www.ccaenvironmental.co.za).
A Public Open Day will be held to enable I&APs to familiarise themselves with the findings of the impact assessment in the Draft EIR and to facilitate the submission of comments on the Report. Key specialists involved in the EIA will also be present to discuss their findings and to respond to any relevant queries that I&APs may have. The Public Open Day will be held on the 11 March 2009 at the Bloubergstrand Hall, Andrew Foster Street, Bloubergstrand between 4pm to 8pm.
If you would like to comment on the proposed project and the Draft EIR, please submit your comments to Ninham Shand by Friday 3 April 2009
