Development of a stormwater detention pond, Chatsworth, Malmesbury
During heavy rainfall events the village of Chatsworth near Malmesbury is flooded due to surface flow of water from the adjacent Dassenberg Farm. To reduce the likelihood of future flooding the Swartland Municipality proposes to channel the stormwater into a detention pond on the Dassenberg Farm. The water would then be disposed of in a controlled manner to reduce the impact of the flooding on Chatsworth. Furthermore the municipality proposes to upgrade 5th Avenue to contain a storm water system.
The Swartland Municipality has appointed Aurecon to undertake the design of a detention pond as well as to undertake the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for the proposed development in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (No. 107 of 1998).
Current Project Phase
The final Basic Assessment report has been lodged with the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning on 28 April 2009 and copies have been lodged at the Swartland Municipality in Malmesbury and at the café at the lower end of 5th Avenue in Chatsworth.
