Application for Ammendment to ROD for Gravity Outfall Sewer, Paarl South
The Record of Decision for the proposed construction of the Paarl South gravity outfall sewer was issued by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development planning (DEA&DP) on 21 May 2007. The description and alignment of the proposed gravity outfall sewer was undertaken at a master planning level, i.e. no detailed design for the proposed pipeline had been undertaken at the time of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the project. It was therefore recognized that "fine-tuning" or re-alignment of sections of the alignment may be required on completion of detailed design.
The Drakenstein Municipality are applying for an amendment to the Record of Decision in terms of Section 40 of the National Environmental Management Act (No. 107 of 1998). Specifically, the Municipality are requesting an amendment to the description and location of the activity (i.e. in terms of the diameter and alignment of the gravity outfall sewer pipeline) for a portion of the pipeline from the WWTW to a manhole in the railway yard to the south of the WWTW.
Current Project Phase
The Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning has amended the Environmental Authorisation in terms of Regulation 43 of the National Environmental Management Amendment Act (Act No. 62 of 2008) (NEMA) Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations (GN No R385 OF 21 April 2006)
The Environmental Authorisation has been amended as follows:
- Deviate components of the proposed pipeline route from the approved diameter and alignment as described in the Final Environmental Impact Assessment report and the Record of Decision (RoD) dated 21 May 2007.
- The removal of Condition 9 from the RoD dated 21 May 2009.
