Proposed Wind Monitoring Mast On Farm Standvastigheid Near Matjiesfontein, Northern Cape
African Infrastructure Investment Managers (Pty) Ltd (AIIM) proposes to erect one masts to record wind speed and direction data. The collection of wind data is part of a feasibility study to measure the wind potential (wind energy) of the farm Standvastigheid near Matjiesfontein, Northern Cape, for the future purpose of establishing a wind energy facility.
The mast would be a three-sided steel lattice structure approximately 80 m in height and 0.5 m wide. The mast would be anchored to the ground (in addition to a concrete foundation) with approximately 15 guy wires on three sides (five per side) of the mast.
AIIM appointed Aurecon (Pty) Ltd to undertake the requisite Basic Environmental Impact Assessment process, in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (No. 107 of 1998).
