Proposed Abstraction of Groundwater to Augment the Water Supply of Sedgefield
DEA Ref No. 12/12/20/884/13
Knysna Municipality proposes to abstract groundwater from two existing boreholes in Sedgefield, in order to augment the water supply of Sedgefield. The boreholes are located on erven 3518 and 3932, Sedgefield immediately adjacent, and near to the Blombosnek water reservoir, respectively.
The abstraction of groundwater in excess of the General Authorisation is listed in Regulation 386 of the National Environmental Management Act No. 107 of 1998 (NEMA) and therefore requires environmental authorisation from the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) in terms of the NEMA EIA Regulations (GN No. R385 of 21 April 2006) prior to commencement. Aurecon has been appointed to undertake the requisite environmental assessment process for the proposed project.
Current Project Phase
The Final Basic Assessment Report (BAR) is available for a 21 day comment period until 2 May 2010 and has been lodged at the same locations as the Draft BAR, namely the Sedgefield Public Library, Knysna Municipal offices in Sedgefield and on the Aurecon website for your information. Any comments received will not be included in a Comments and Response Report but will instead be collated and forwarded directly to DEA.
Once DEA has made a decision with regard to this application all registered I&APs will be notified and a statutory appeal process will follow.
