The Remediation, Rehabilitation and Restoration of the Spruit, Krom, Leeu and Hugo’s-Palmiet Rivers, Wellington & Paarl, Drakenstein Municipality

As a result of years of flood challenges, the beds and banks of the Spruit, Krom, Leeu and Hugo’s-Palmiet rivers, the banks as well as erosion protection structures have eroded and/or collapsed.   Aurecon was appointed to investigate the condition of the four rivers from an environmental and engineering perspective within Drakenstein Municipality. 

 

 

 

Current Project Phase

Resulting from the public engagement process that was undertaken for the proposed remediation, rehabilitation and restoration of the Spruit, Krom, Leeu and Hugos-Palmiet rivers located within the Drakenstein Municipality, a report has been written and has been submitted to the Drakenstein Municipality for their consideration.  The Report highlights the key findings from the engagement process, the information of which will be used to inform the Municipality’s discussion in terms of the way forward for the project
